Did you know that one in four people suffer with a mental health problem?

so it’s not as rare as you may want to believe. You probably have a friend, or a family member, or a work colleuge, who has a mental disorder. Walking down the street, you’re probably passing people who are fighting a mental health problem.

But you wouldn’t know it, would you? No, because there is no ‘look’ to a mental health sufferer. They look just like everyone else. Not all depressed teens go around with huge gashes on their wrists and crying constantly.

Sounds like a huge stereotype doesn’t it? Well, I would know. I can’t tell you how many times people have said ‘but you look too happy to be depressed’ or ‘but I can’t see any cuts on you, are you sure you’re a self harmer’ or even ‘but you seem to normal to have a mental health problem’

I know it’s easy to stereotype. All blonde’s are dumb right? All asians are good at maths? Wrong. If you took a look at your life, would you find that you are stereotyping too much?

Think about it. Be a part of a bigger movement, and take them time to speak up in your community or school, about breaking down mental health stigma and stereotypes.
